Monotype Modern is a Victorian adaptation of the popular modern designs of Didot and Bodoni; the austere, formal qualities inherent in these designs have been softened with a little less contrast between thick and thin strokes, a slightly larger x-height, and terminals with accentuated hooks.

Monotype Modern is a fine text face, with the heavier weights contrasting nicely for headings and display work.
